RIB Capsize and Righting.

This is a two-day course. The course has both classroom and practical elements and is delivered hands-on with full candidate participation. This course is aimed at professional RIB and patrol boat crew working in the coastal zone.

Course content.

Meteorology and weather conditions in the local sphere. Interaction with headlands, tides, estuary waters, sand bars and shallow water.

Vessel Trim and loading.

General safety equipment. Personal safety equipment. Boats Safety equipment. Self-righting equipment.

Preparing the boat.

Stowing and making fast the boats equipment, day’s work equipment and crew equipment.

Passage planning and weather planning.

Close quarters boat handling, interaction between vessels, interaction vessel and bank.

Coming alongside another vessel, making fast to another vessel, towing alongside, Girding (or Girting)

Squat and sinkage.

Running before a sea, heading a sea, beam seas and quartering a sea.

Crossing a bar, Breaking waves.

Loss of reserve buoyancy and down flooding.

Day 2. Practical demonstrations.

Day 2. How to avoid capsize.

Day 2. De-brief.

RIB FRC 6.5m with operational self-righting kit (engines removed for demo’s)
