DESCRIPTION:The Elementary First Aid course forms part of the basic training required for all persons wishing to commence a career at sea. \nThe objective of the training is to give all persons intending to go to sea a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be taken upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency aboard ship. \nIf successful\, candidates will be awarded a certificate which meets the criteria laid down for Elementary First Aid Aboard Ship in accordance with Section V1/1 of the STCW code. \nThe training forms part of the requirements for basic training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship. DESCRIPTION:This course is physically demanding. Candidates must be physically fit and meet the standard entry requirements for entry into the Merchant Navy. \nThe course follows a standard programme. SUMMARY:STCW Ship Security Awareness
DESCRIPTION:To give those undertaking designated security duties on board ship the essential education and training meeting the Knowledge\, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in STCW\, which supports Chapter XI-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974\, as amended and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.\n\nThis course covers: \nRegulation VI/6\, paragraph 4 and Section A-VI/6\, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978\, as amended and incorporates Proficiency in Security Awareness laid down in Regulation VI/6 and Section A-VI/6 of the STCW Convention and Code \nThis one day course is programmed for persons who are employed or engaged onboard vessels for which the ISPS code is applied. The course meets the requirements for the understanding and proficiency requirements as set out in STCW A-V1 (section 6-8 as amended). \nWhat are the entry requirements? \nThere is no intake restriction\, although some sea going experience would be an advantage before undertaking a Designated Security Duties training course\, and neither is there a requirement for the leaner to have completed Security Awareness training before being enrolled on a Designated Security Duties training course. \nCourse duration is one day. \nThis course is normally run on a Thursday and is day 3 of a 4 day STCW Basic Safety Courses programme. SUMMARY:STCW Able Seafarer Deck Course
DESCRIPTION:An STCW II/5 Able Seafarer – Deck is a qualified rating at the STCW Support Level in the deck department on seagoing vessels of 500GT or more. DESCRIPTION:This course is based on COSWP the code of safe working practices for merchant seamen and is designed to meet the latest standards of the MCA for the issue of an Efficient Deck Hand certificate. \nWhat will I study? \nThe course includes theoretical and practical training in all elements of seamanship including: \n\nSafe induction to the shipboard environment\,\nEmergency procedures\, musters and drills\,\nRope and wire handling\, splicing\, knots bends and hitches\,\nAnchors and mooring equipment and techniques\,\nEnclosed spaces\,\nOpening and closing cargo hatches and watertight doors\,\nCargo gear and rigging\,\nGangway and pilot ladders\,\nWorking aloft\,\nWatch keeping and other duties.\nPractical Seamanship\n\nCourse duration is five days. \nAssessment is continuous during the course\, with a final assessment on the last day. \nTo qualify for the issue of an AB certificate\, a seafarer must meet the following criteria: \n\nBe at least 18 years of age\,\nHold a Watch Rating Certificate\,\nHold an EDH certificate\,\nHold an MCA approved Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than fast rescue boats certificate (CPSC&RB)\,\nHold an ENG 1 or MCA accepted equivalent\,\nGain 12 months sea service in the deck department whilst holding an NWR certificate Regulation II/4 or whilst holding an EDH certificate\,\nIf you are working as a General Purpose (GP) Rating you must complete 18 months seagoing service\, of which 6 months must be on deck duties\,\nSea-service performed in a deck capacity on sea-going fishing vessels of more than 16.5m in registered length\, Royal Naval ships or Mobile Offshore Units (MOU) will be counted in full but at least 6 months sea-service on merchant ships will be required for certification as an AB seaman. Seafarers with MOU sea service unable to complete the required 6 months on merchant ships will be issued with an AB certificate suitably endorsed with a limitation for use on MOUs. This limitation will be removed at a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Marine Office on completion of 6 months sea service on merchant ships.

DESCRIPTION:An STCW II/5 Able Seafarer – Deck is a qualified rating at the STCW Support Level in the deck department on seagoing vessels of 500GT or more. SUMMARY:MCA Approved Efficient Deck Hand
DESCRIPTION:This course is based on COSWP the code of safe working practices for merchant seamen and is designed to meet the latest standards of the MCA for the issue of an Efficient Deck Hand certificate. \nWhat will I study? \nThe course includes theoretical and practical training in all elements of seamanship including: \n\nSafe induction to the shipboard environment\,\nEmergency procedures\, musters and drills\,\nRope and wire handling\, splicing\, knots bends and hitches\,\nAnchors and mooring equipment and techniques\,\nEnclosed spaces\,\nOpening and closing cargo hatches and watertight doors\,\nCargo gear and rigging\,\nGangway and pilot ladders\,\nWorking aloft\,\nWatch keeping and other duties.\nPractical Seamanship\n\nCourse duration is five days. \nAssessment is continuous during the course\, with a final assessment on the last day. \nTo qualify for the issue of an AB certificate\, a seafarer must meet the following criteria: \n\nBe at least 18 years of age\,\nHold a Watch Rating Certificate\,\nHold an EDH certificate\,\nHold an MCA approved Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than fast rescue boats certificate (CPSC&RB)\,\nHold an ENG 1 or MCA accepted equivalent\,\nGain 12 months sea service in the deck department whilst holding an NWR certificate Regulation II/4 or whilst holding an EDH certificate\,\nIf you are working as a General Purpose (GP) Rating you must complete 18 months seagoing service\, of which 6 months must be on deck duties\,\nSea-service performed in a deck capacity on sea-going fishing vessels of more than 16.5m in registered length\, Royal Naval ships or Mobile Offshore Units (MOU) will be counted in full but at least 6 months sea-service on merchant ships will be required for certification as an AB seaman. Seafarers with MOU sea service unable to complete the required 6 months on merchant ships will be issued with an AB certificate suitably endorsed with a limitation for use on MOUs. This limitation will be removed at a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Marine Office on completion of 6 months sea service on merchant ships.
