DESCRIPTION:National-Powerboat-Certificate Coastal-Nav-for-Small-Boats Coastal-Nav-for-Small-Boats Advanced-Powerboat-Certificate \nRYA Powerboat courses are primarily for those using small powered craft such as RIBs\, dories and sportsboats that don’t generally undertake long or offshore passages. This is a 2 Day Practical Course. \nThe types of commercial craft requiring this level certification are typically: \n\ncharter fishing boats\,\nsmall passenger launches\,\nthrill ride operators\,\nharbour patrol launches\,\nconstruction site safety boats\,\nrecreational boat users etc.\n\nIf you will be using larger boats with accommodation and the capacity to cruise or work further offshore you are likely to need a certificate within the motor cruising programme such as Day Skipper\, Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster™ Offshore. \nIf you need a Powerboat Level 2 certificate in order to work on a commercial craft subject to the MCA’s codes of practice\, you will need to get it commercially endorsed. \nYou can then work on commercial vessels up to 24 meters in length\, operating in category 6 waters – that is up to 3 miles from a nominated departure point in fine weather and daylight hours. \n\nPre-course experience –  None or may be preceded by Level 1\nAssumed Knowledge  – None\nCourse Content  – All you need to know for self-sufficient power-boating at a basic level. Course includes launching\, mooring\, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat\nAbility after course  – Self-sufficient power boater in the right conditions\, aware of own limitations and those of craft\nMinimum duration  – 2 day course or shorter assessment for experienced drivers (half to one day).\nMinimum age  – For the Level 2 course the minimum age is 12\, but a commercial endorsement cannot be obtained until the age of 17

SUMMARY:ISA Powerboat Advanced
DESCRIPTION:Advanced-Powerboat-Certificate \nThis course is for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips by day and night. \nIt includes navigation at planing speed\, weather and other aspects of skippering powerboats on more challenging passages in coastal waters. Given the nature of these passages Advanced Powerboat courses should be delivered on powerboats of a minimum of 6 meters and an engine size sufficient to enable coastal passages at planing speed. \nAnybody undertaking this course must have the practical skills of the Intermediate course and knowledge of navigation to at least the standard of the Day Skipper shorebased course. \nAssumed Knowledge \nCandidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with a thorough knowledge of the navigation and chartwork to the level of Coastal Skipper/RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased certificate. SUMMARY:MCA Approved Efficient Deck Hand
DESCRIPTION:This course is based on COSWP the code of safe working practices for merchant seamen and is designed to meet the latest standards of the MCA for the issue of an Efficient Deck Hand certificate. \nWhat will I study? \nThe course includes theoretical and practical training in all elements of seamanship including: \n\nSafe induction to the shipboard environment\,\nEmergency procedures\, musters and drills\,\nRope and wire handling\, splicing\, knots bends and hitches\,\nAnchors and mooring equipment and techniques\,\nEnclosed spaces\,\nOpening and closing cargo hatches and watertight doors\,\nCargo gear and rigging\,\nGangway and pilot ladders\,\nWorking aloft\,\nWatch keeping and other duties.\nPractical Seamanship\n\nCourse duration is five days. \nAssessment is continuous during the course\, with a final assessment on the last day. \nTo qualify for the issue of an AB certificate\, a seafarer must meet the following criteria: \n\nBe at least 18 years of age\,\nHold a Watch Rating Certificate\,\nHold an EDH certificate\,\nHold an MCA approved Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than fast rescue boats certificate (CPSC&RB)\,\nHold an ENG 1 or MCA accepted equivalent\,\nGain 12 months sea service in the deck department whilst holding an NWR certificate Regulation II/4 or whilst holding an EDH certificate\,\nIf you are working as a General Purpose (GP) Rating you must complete 18 months seagoing service\, of which 6 months must be on deck duties\,\nSea-service performed in a deck capacity on sea-going fishing vessels of more than 16.5m in registered length\, Royal Naval ships or Mobile Offshore Units (MOU) will be counted in full but at least 6 months sea-service on merchant ships will be required for certification as an AB seaman. Seafarers with MOU sea service unable to complete the required 6 months on merchant ships will be issued with an AB certificate suitably endorsed with a limitation for use on MOUs. This limitation will be removed at a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Marine Office on completion of 6 months sea service on merchant ships.
