The centres boat got her annual attention recently before being laid-up. Extra time was given to renewing the pencil anodes about the engine cooler box and outdrive, in addition to the usual checklist of items before calling the boat fully ‘winterised’.This upkeep work is discussed in the engine courses. A detailed inspection will draw attention to issues which could cause concerns next season – so by taking care of the little things, we reduce the likelihood of bigger ones occurring!

Ultimately good ownership requires an understanding of the equipment onboard, its maintenance and lifecycle. Considering the rate of change in the world of electrics and electronics from todays “smart” engines, vessels navigational equipment to IT infrastructure onboard, support needs and obsolescence factors are becoming a concern as vessels age. Be mindful of upgrades to systems, service support bulletins from engine manufacturers and be prepared to upgrade when and where necessary to maintain operation.
